Headed up by Maxime Graillot, son of Alain Graillot, and Thomas Schmittel, Domaine des Lises appeared on the scene with the fabulous 2004 vintage. They are meticulous in their work. Based in Crozes-Hermitage he is a well-focused winemaker, producing artisanal wines with maximum varietal and terroir expression.
Maxime Graillot and Thomas Schmittel’s wines are exuberant and expressive, but perhaps with a bit more fruit power behind them – result of de-stemming nearly all of the grapes. The wines possess an effortless grace and charm that has become a staple of the Graillot style.
Maxime Graillot no longer stands in the shadow of his celebrated father. Today he has the senior winemaking role at Domaine Alain Graillot and is carving out his own place in the history of the Northern Rhône. Naturally, he is best known for the outstanding wines that bear his name and it is those that we offer here. The latest releases from Maxime’s own vineyards compare very favourably with those from his father’s, ignoring obvious stylistic differences.
Any lover of Northern Rhône wines should pop a Maxime Graillot bottle of wine to enjoy the real flavours of Crozes-Hermitage wines.
Jean and Pierre Gonon are doing some of the very best work in the Northern Rhône Valley and we are proud to feature their Saint-Josephs. They have excellent vineyards, including some of the 70 to 90-year-old vines of Raymond Trollat.
Their vineyard work is organic in style, and the vines are massale-selection, resulting in phenomenal wines.
