Burgundy
The roots of the family estate date back from 1760, and today’s superb vineyard holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny were united by the marriage of two winemaking families three generations ago. Now in the hands of 41-year-old Romain Taupenot and his sister Virgine, 36, they are the 7th generation to continue the family tradition. All farming is organic and the wine style here is one of elegance and purity, with a base of finesse rather than power.
Romain & Virgine Taupenot are renowned for their production of Gevrey-Chambertin, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru, and Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru.
Jacques-Fréderic Mugnier represents the fifth generation of his family at Chateau de Chambolle-Musigny. The approach to both viticulture and wine-making is aimed at preserving in the wines the purest expression of Nature with minimal interference from technological practices. Thanks to this philosophy, he has produced a series of fine, fragrant and scintillating wines in the last two decades.
Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is considered to be one of the best winemakers in Burgundy.
The Domaine was started at the beginning of the 20th century by Armand Rousseau. Headed up by Eric, Armand’s grandson, the Rousseau wines are the antithesis of modern, dark-coloured, extracted styles. Here paler colors hide wines of extraordinary class and intensity. Eric’s daughter is more and more involved in the production of these elegant wines. This 15 hectare domaine, based in Gevrey, enjoys a reputation of being one of the most distinguished estates in the Côte-d’Or.
The “Rousseau hand” is a style of wine very recognizable: Fine, elegant and an honest, true expression of the vineyards through the Pinot Noir grape and a little piece of the winemaker.
Based in Morey-St-Denis, Laurent Ponsot has run the estate since 1983 and left it over to this year to focus on a new venture. He spends most of his time in the vineyard. For him, healthy grapes are the most important component in the making very good wine. In general, the beginning of his harvest starts later than his neighbouring producers. At Domaine Ponsot they wait until the grape has reached full maturity and sometime even longer. Here, there is only one rule in the vinification process: not to follow any rules. The wines are powerful, rich with a lot of flavours and aromas.
Domaine Ponsot produces a very rare and refined white wine, Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru “Monts Luisants” 100% Aligoté.
Domaine Georges Roumier has been working passionately for three generations. Georges Roumier made up the international reputation the domain in the 50s. Since 1981, Christophe, George’s grandson, runs the estate. The primary goal is to produce wines that express the characteristics specific to each terroir while respecting the vintage year. This requires rigourous methods during viticulture, vinification and ageing processes.
Christophe Roumier’s wines are about nuance and sensuality.
The family estate extends over 8 hectares of vines around Gevrey-Chambertin, with different types of appellations (Grands crus, 1er crus, Villages and regional). Domaine Duroché’s notoriety is fast growing, thanks to the quality of Pierre and Gilles’ work and the five prior generations. Cultivation techniques adapt to the climatic variation in order to produce best wine each year.
Duroché’s wines are defined by precision and elegance, in which the notion of terroir is undeniable.
The Domaine Cacheux Jacques et Fils is located in Vosne-Romanée. Jacques Cacheux began making wine in the 50s, very good friend of Henri Jayer, he retired in 1994. Patrice Cacheux is the fourth generation of winegrowers in the family. The grapes are totally destemmed and then macerated for between 8-10 days. The wines are then matured in oak, 100% new in the 1er Cru and Grand Cru. This results on elegant, silky wines that, whilst eminently approachable when young , have the ability to age gracefully as well.
Patrice Cacheux is well known for its know-how to produce wines ranging from Burgundy AC to some high-end Grand Crus.
The family estate extends over 14 ha and offers a palette of 12 different “climates” (Marsannay – Gevrey-Chambertin – Pommard). The preservation of their beautiful terroirs and of the environment guide the way the vine is cultivated. Cyril Audoin’s ambition for optimum quality has imposed manual harvesting with selective sorting. Old vines and low yields are also key points of their search for quality wines.
Domaine Audoin produces authentic wines expressing their terroir with elegance and clarity.
Emblematic Domaine located in Prémeaux-Prissey. In 2015 the very talented Geraldine Godot took over the Domaine. While retaining the core values of l’arlon, she has brought her own style with extraction kept to a minimum and the wines seeing less new oak. Purity, classic, elegant and divine pleasure only Burgundy delivers.
